Notes Magazine, formerly Prime Magazine, was launched in early 2010. We were tasked with developing an on-line magazine that would appeal to a new and growing market of affluent, sophisticated and intelligent Polish males with incomes exceeding £100,000 p/a. We worked closely with designer Simon Klos to build a visually stunning website packed full of features for both the readers and the owners of the magazine. Built on the Wordpress publishing platform, Notes Magazine tackles subjects from various areas of society and culture, symbolic as well as material. It presents articles from different points of view, often from a global perspective in the form of articles, photographs and films.
Having been built on the Wordpress platform, the owners enjoy complete control over the content. Adding, removing and editing articles and pages can be done with a couple of clicks of the mouse. Sophisticated slide shows can be built in a matter of minutes; The majority of the work is done by the website itself. If a new article is added and tagged to the ‘featured’ category, the article title and an excerpt are automatically added to the front page, an article image is automatically added to the ‘Featured Gallery’ image rotator and a summary of the article is automatically emailed to all the rss subscribers. The article is automatically displayed on the website in the correct page template – black on white – and the title and author will be added to the sidebar under the heading ‘Recent Articles’. This is all done behind the scenes – all the owners have to do is copy and paste the article content into a form field and hit ‘Publish’
Notes offers various other features including giving businesses the opportunity to launch premium products onto the Polish market through a sophisticated custom advertising system, feeding targeted adverts to logged-in users based on their profile. We have highlighted below a few of the features of the website:

A rotating image gallery showcasing featured articles from that month. Author name, date and an article excerpt are automatically added to the slide show alongside a click-through to the article itself.

Custom icons for categories displaying both in a small form on the front page and in a larger format on category and article pages.

Although the website is powered by a powerful Content Management System, Wordpress, we have built several page templates so various sections of the website retain their own unique look and feel

This form gathers extra information about new members which is displayed in their profile. Members can log in at any time to change the details

This section of the website automatically updates to display all audio, image and video-based articles. The site owners can log in and change the way that these articles are displayed

These slide shows display content for image-based articles. Users can click through to a gallery section form within the slide show and view other slide shows that are on the website.

Thanks to AJAX, we can provide real-time feedback to our users using server-side validation scripts. On submitting the form, users are thanked for their comments without having to leave the current page.

Using a custom-built ad management system, The site owners can group ads together for certain campaigns and ads can automatically be removed after a specified period of time. Click-throughs are measured and presented in report format

These 2 elements enhance the user experience by allowing them to log in and search through forms that have been tweaked to match the look and feel of the website.

When a new article is added, it is automatically put into a black on white template to retain more of a classic newspaper look and feel. All the separate page elements also switch to match this black-on-white template.

Each article gives users the ability to give their feedback and views. The comments are moderated then added with a single click. This is one of many great ways that users can interact with the website and with each other.

Each time an article is added to the website, its title, author and date are automatically added to the ‘Latest Articles’ section of the sidebar. On each article page there is also a ‘Similar Articles’ section.

Using a combination of Woopra and Google Analytics, visitors to the site can be tracked to help the owners know what type of content to produce and what type of adverts to display.

Built on the powerful Wordpress CMS, Notes Magazine can be updated with ease and speed. New pages, articles, slide shows, videos and much more can be added with a couple of clicks of the mouse.

Additional SEO functionality has been built into the CMS to allow the owners to automatically track and segment all outbound links from within posts. It also allows them to track AdSense clicks and add extra search engines.

All the owners have to do to add a slide show is log into a special area of the site, set up a few options and the slide show is automatically added to the website.
